Why 3.5mm jack is not working?

Even I Have Faced a Problem Like this earlier. What you can do is put mobile phone's earphones in the 3.5 mm jack slot of your laptop, play a song.

Two Possibilities :-

1) If you are able to hear the song properly .... then nothing is wrong with your laptop slot. Something is wrong with the headphone you are using then just change the headphones (either buy a new one or exchange it if it is in the warranty period).

2) If You Cant Hear the song properly ... there is a problem with the jack slot, speak to the shop advisor where you bought the laptop from.
