An Active Matrix OLED or AMOLED (English: Active-MatrixOrganic Light-Emitting Diode) which means activematrix organic light emitting diode is a type of screenthat combines a technical and an activematrix OLED. This technique allows the creation of large screens, high resolutionand lower power consumption compared to passive matrixdisplays.
An active matrix refers to a technique for addressingthe pixels, that is to say how the information isconveyed to each elementary pixel power. With thisconfiguration, each pixel is controlled independently. Themanufacturing process of these screens begins with therealization of circuits pixels based thinfilm transistors(TFT), which will help supply powerto the OLED. Then, the organic layers are depositedon the matrix to form an organic diode in each pixel. Thistechnique is similar to that used on the flatscreen TFT LCD (AMLCD). Recently entering the marketfor medium-sized screens, AMOLED displays are themain alternative to LCD screens.

Addressing technique:

Like LCDmonitors, two techniques for addressing the pixels areused to control the image of an OLEDdisplay: addressing liability oftennoted PMOLED (English Passive Matrix OLED)and active in addressing the acronym AMOLED.

Applications:

These screens are mainlyused for mobile devices such as mobile phones, digitalcameras or music players. The technologies used to achievethe AMOLEDs are constantly improving the dimensions ofthe screens are steadily increasing and the life and efficiencyof the OLED diodes tends to reduce power consumption.

OLED TV:

Thefirst OLED TV to be sold was produced by thecompany Sony in 2007. Named XEL-1 with a dimensionof 11 inches it was also the finest with only3 mm thick. Prototypes of television screens over40inches have already been proposed and foreshadow theemergence of the consumer market for large screens.
