There is always scope for improvement even for the most advanced technological wonder. Although the touchscreen of the iPhone had revolutionized the digital world, but even this multi-touch display lacks complete perfection. Not every action on the iPhone could be accomplished by manipulating the Multi-Touch interface. To make this Apple device more versatile, developers at Apple are trying to integrate secondary inputs with the Multi-Touch interface. A new Apple patent application – Multitouch Data Fusion gives some glimpses of the fantastic ideas hidden inside Apple’s sleeves.
Some exciting concepts of Multi-Touch Data Fusion include Voice Fusion, Finger Identification Fusion, Device Dynamics Fusion, Biometrics Fusion and Facial Expression Fusion.
Facial Expression Fusion will help in conveying the emotional state of the user to the multi-touch movement data during creative activities such as music composition or to detect the frustration of the user in case of impending problems for the multi-touch data to correct the problem accordingly.
Fusion of biometric data with multi-touch movement data will enhance the security of the system and benefit gaming and fitness related activities.
Device Dynamics Fusion would filter unintended finger motions or vibrations in dynamic situations like during gaming excitement or while traveling in airplane.
Finger Identification would be applied best in finger painting where each finger is assigned a color, stroke or some other application.
In Voice Fusion, voice and multi-touch could be infused in applications such as image editing where the ease of using voice in selecting color would be combined with the resizing and reshaping of objects using multi-touch movement.
It however remains to be seen how many of these concepts are eventually realized that would enhance the multi-touch interface of the iPhone in future.
