Verizon Wireless, is an existing mobile phone operator in the United Statesestablished in 2000. It is the largest mobile phone operator in the United States, with customer base of 92 million customers. Based on revenues, VerizonWireless is the largest American company and largest wireless data provider, with annual revenues of U.S. $ 43.9 billion. Headquartered in Basking Ridge, NewJersey, the company is a joint venture of Verizon Communications and Vodafone Group, with a share of 55% and 45% respectively. Its network covers a combined population of about 260 million U.S.. Resulted from the amalgamation of severalmobile operators including Bell Atlantic Mobile, AirTouch Communications, ClaroPuerto Rico and GTE Wireless. Uses mobile technology CDMA2000 1x.On June 5, 2008, Verizon Wireless announced it will acquire rural provider AlltelWireless in a deal valued at $ 28.1 billion. With this merger, Verizon Wireless will have approximately 80 million customers, making it the largest operator of the nation. This will also enable Verizon to become the tenth largest operator in the world. The joint network will also cover some 290 million people, making it thelargest country in area.

AT & T Mobility LLC, formerly Cingular Wireless LLC, a subsidiary of U.S.telecommunications group AT & T, which is considered the incumbent in the country. It was originally a joint venture in 2001 between SBC Communications (which wasrenamed the meantime AT & T, following the acquisition of the former incumbent: AT & T Corporation) and BellSouth owned 60% by the first and 40% the second.AT & T and BellSouth have since merged, creating a unique company, which owns100% of Cingular Wireless.Cingular became the first mobile operator in the United States following the acquisition of AT & T Wireless Services by SBC Communications October 26, 2004, which brought it 24 million customers. It has more than 50 million subscribers. Cingular has made about its recently after the exclusive distribution agreement that the company has signed with Apple in its iPhone.

Looking at Verizon Wireless its strategy is simple. It focuses on the strength of its network as its main selling point. There are arguments that can be made that either network is superior, depending on your metrics -- coverage area, dropped calls, strength of signal -- but what matters with branding is perception, and the edge in network perception goes to Verizon Wireless, which has spent years building its image as the superior cellular service. Both companies have high-quality networks, advertise extensively, offer a ton of different cell phones, and have similar pricing models, so, like most of these "brand battles," the decision comes down to personal preference. One thing is for sure, with over 65 million users for Verizon Wireless and over 71 million users for AT&T Mobility, this is one rivalry that will not be over anytime soon.
