AY&T offers free 3G iPhone upgrade to subscribers who bought 1st Gen iPhone After May 27th

Here’s a deal that is sure to generate tonnes of curiosity and an equal number of consumer claims. Apparently AT&T is opening up their heart and offering their subscribers the chance of a lifetime by letting everyone who bought a 1st gen iPhone after May 27th upgrade their handsets to a new iPhone 3G at no additional charge! Of course you still have to sign another 2-year contract (overwriting the old one) to obtain the new phone, which when you consider that the new iPhone 3G data plan has gone up 10 bucks to total $30 and that you will also need a voice plan starting at $39.99/month, roughly translates into you shelling out $240 over the life of the new 2-year contract. So unless you absolutely must have 3G creds, we suggest you seriously think about what you’re getting into with the new deal.
