Blackberry without a data plan- is it possible?

I currently own a Samsung SCH i760 on the Verizon wireless network. It has almost been 3 years for me to use this phone. Therefore I am planning to buy a new Blackberry for myself. Have heard a lot about Blackberry curve bold and storm, but the only issue that I am facing is that I’m hearing that I can’t use Blackberry phones without a data plan. Is it true? I don’t need web browsing in my phone as I carry my Macbook with me all the time. So is there any way I can opt out of data plan with my Blackberry on Verizon network?

If you hire a data plan and use it in a bb, you can only use the browser and some Java applications (those that can use the provider's ap). ie java gmail, opera mini, etc. You'll have facebook, twitter, msn messenger, blackberry messenger, and so on, but you can not use, nor able to send or receive emails with so the bb.

If you want to hire the data plan, better buy an imitation China's bb, will be more functional and Dualsim xD

I do not agree that that a bb without bb data plan is an exclusive 'phone more, do not even have to say?, Long time I have a little old 8310, and walk of wonders, with a guy I can plan view and send emails, surf , messenger, gmail, reading the newspaper, and so on. (Just do not go and that is "lost" without the plan is the messengger blackberry bb, but with msn no longer required, in addition to the push email, which is changed by an alternative app goes full.
