How to make a cellphone holster of your own

Cell phone holster

Now a days, everyone seems to look for a way to save some money. But it is not a wise decision to not buy a cell phone cover. Cell phones are expensive and the best way to protect them from scratches is to keep them in a cell phone cover. And if you are very keen to save money then, why not create your own cover out of a fabric of your choice.

If you were to visit a store to buy a cover, it would most probably be made from vinyl. If you like, you can use vinyl to make your own cover but you can also use some other fabric that is quite unique. To make things even more easier, choose a fabric having some elasticity so that it fits easily around the cell phone. Also, purchase a piece of transparent plastic as well. The plastic should be thick enough to protect the phone but it shouldn’t be so thick that it is hard to sew. The best place to pick this up is from a local home improvement store.

To begin, take the measurement of the phone. First, measure the distance from the topmost part of the phone’s screen to the lowest row of keys. After that, measure the full width of the phone. Cut the transparent plastic according to these measurements. Now, measure the phone from the top of the screen to over the top part of the phone and just 1/3 of distance down the back portion. Then, cut a piece of vinyl as per these requirements. Finally, measure the lowest row of the keys and around the lower portion of the phone and the uppermost part of your phone. Now, cut the other piece of vinyl matching these dimensions.

Now, start sewing the bottom of the clear plastic to the piece of vinyl from the bottom only. Coming to the top most portion, start sewing top vinyl piece to the top most clear plastic. After it sew a Velcro strip to the underside portion of the top most part. Now, take the other piece of Velcro and sew it to the back part of vinyl. You now have a fully stitched piece that fits around the cell phone. Now, fasten it at the back.

Now, take a small piece of colored elastic having the same color as vinyl or the fabric that you are using as cover of your cell phone. At the most, the width of elastic will be 1/2 inch. Just a bit shorter than the length of the side of the phone, cut two lengths of elastic. As a guideline, try and make the elastic an inch from the bottom to the top of your phone. Don’t forget to figure in the volume control section if they are present on the side of the phone.

Attach the front side of the cover and sew in the plastic. Sew the backside to the opposing side of the piece of plastic piece. Cut a small slit to allow for the insertion of your phone charger. For a finishing touch, stitch this slit. To add welt, remember to do so in advance to sew on the plastic strips. Sew it over the complete perimeter, i.e., back and front. To easily attach and remove your phone to a belt, attach a piece of plastic vertically on the backside of your phone. Alternatively, you can also use a small metallic piece formed just like a small tongue depressor to suit your pocket. Fold the metal, almost bringing it to a half. Now, attach one half to the interior of the pocket using glue. The other half portion can be used to attach the phone to your belt, phone, or pocket.
