Cellphones grimier than the bottom of shoe!

Our cellphones are filthier than anything. While this is not new news for all of us and a recent research carried out by cell phone retailer Dial-a-Phone has thrown some more light on the issue. Dial-a-Phone has supplied cellular phones on monthly contract to 2.9 million customers.

The most shocking revelation is that the muck found on our handsets is more than average anything at our home. The company took swabs from household objects including door handle, keyboard, bottom of a shoe and even a toilet seat and found that the cellphone interiors carry more pathogens than any surface in your home.

Joanne Verran, Professor of Microbiology at Manchester Metropolitan University said:

The phones contained more skin bacteria than the any other object; this could be due to the fact that this type of bacteria increases in high temperatures and our phones are perfect for breeding these germs as they’re kept warm and cozy in our pockets, handbags and brief cases. These bacteria are toxic to humans, and can cause infections if they have the opportunity to enter the body.

And, when you put your germs loaded handset to your ears, you make yourself prone to a number of unwanted diseases. Well, the main reason for the germs to choose cellphones as a perfect home for them is the irradiated warmth generated by a cellphone that suits them well.

The research further evinced the presence of skin bacteria including staphylococcus Aureus on the phone, keyboard, toilet seat and door handle. Infact, our cellphone is more in contact with the wider range of bacteria even than the toilet seat. Well, I am not going to use someone else’s mobile when the battery goes off. That would be risky as I use antibacterial wipes with my handset.

And yes, they also advice to ‘wipe’ your handsets frequently in order to fend off the risk of bacterial diseases. So, what else can I say except ‘Clean them now!’
