Where can I get cool htc hero apps ?

I got a new HTC hero today. It is a cool phone and having all the latest features. One thing where it lacks is that it is not having that much popular htc hero apps. Online reviews about the phone say that there are thousands of apps available for the phone. So I was wondering if anyone here can tell me where can find those applications. Please make it very sure apps are free as I am all empty after paying huge some for my HTC Hero.
