Samsung's tough cookie: M110 'Solid'

Posted By: Gagandeep Sharma | Jan 6 2008

Samsung Mobile has finally let go of its obsession with sleek and sliding cell phones. Soon to be released in the UK on O2 network is its rugged offering. Named Samsung 'Solid', M110 is aimed at the niche that doesn't like to treat its mobile phones delicately.

A thick rubber body encases the 'Solid' and makes it ideal to withstand rough handling and shocks. It has been rated 'IP54' by the military, meaning that it is water, dust as well as shock-proof. However the tough exterior is all that this handset has going in its favor. The features on this product are pretty regular.

Some of the specs are:

GPRS dual band featuring EDGE/GPRS data

WAP 2.0

240 x 320 resolution

VGA camera

IP54 rating

Flash light

Longer battery life

Bluetooth

MMS and Java

Fm Tuner

SOS dialing

It is this last feature that is quite unique. Pressing down volume button three times in quick succession automatically dials a pre-selected number. Once SOS dialing is activated, the next call is put on automatic answer. I guess the users will do well to remember what button to press when bad guys are around.

Solid is priced £59.99 ($120 app.) on O2 Pay As You Go deals. Pass on this unless your game is dangerous, if you know what I mean.
