Come this September, The iPhone will finally hit Indian shores with Vodafone carrying the ultra-stylish and the ultra-desirable mobile phone. Though Indian users have been using Jail broken 8GB iPhones selling for anywhere between INR 22000 to INR 26000, the iPhone that Vodafone will bring in is estimated to cost a whopper of INR 28000. This gives us an inkling that it could be the second generation 3G iPhone that Vodafone will launch. This, because of two factors. Factor one is the launch time of September which would have seen the 3G iPhone being launched in most parts of the world and factor two is the iPhone’s stratospheric price of 28 thousand which hints at a higher end version. But then, Apple products have always been sold at a premium in India and this time around too, we could be shortchanged with a older version. So, all we can do, is to hope and pray that Apple will give us the 3G iPhone for the whopping price they are asking us to pay.

The people at Vodafone are being very tightlipped about whether we’ll get the 3G iPhone or the first generation iPhone. If they shortchange India and launch the first gen iPhone, it will only encourage the grey market further as Apple products have always seen more volumes in the grey market.
I Guess it would be the 3G enabled version for there have been talks about it in the air but then they would have to look for clearance from TRAI considering the recent fate of the Blackberry model which was simply banned from the country for stupid security concerns.
