Target consumers: Smartphone users, looking for Google experience on the phone

Should they buy it? Yes

Why? The first Android-powered phone, G1, provides all the Google advantages that were for so long the exclusive privilege of PC owners. G1 will bring Google applications including the search engine, Google maps and Google mail to the smartphone fold. Although a number of ‘wow’ features are missing from the Google phone, but its open-end Android software, makes it possible for software developers to create new apps for the device in the near future.

The touchscreen is big enough to allow clear display of images, especially effective for web browsing, trackball for one-handed navigation, one touch access to Google apps and a 3MP camera. The GPS feature is also present for helping with the Google Maps application with Streetview and 3G ensures faster connectivity.

Pricing & Availability: G1 will be available in T-Mobile stores from October 22 for $179. It will be available in Britain in November and in other European countries from early next year.
