What is Google voice ?

I have heard that there is a technology of Google whose name is Google voice. It is providing us one number for all of our phone how it can happen is that there is one number for all of our phone. I am not able to understand the problem. There is another option by which we can call free of cost how it can be. If they are giving free call then nobody has to pay the huge bill to service provider. I am not able to understand the Google voice strategy please elaborate whole features of it with valid reason.

GrandCentral was a service launched in 2005, whose main idea was to give us a unique phone number. This telephone number, in turn, could redirect the call to any of our phones. So, if I called the boss, for example, could make them sound all of our phones (hey, it's important, right?). Except for weekends, where we could direct their calls directly to voicemail. If they were friends, we could also redirect to our cell, for example, and business contacts to redirect to another number.
In short, we had a phone number that made a bridge or intermediary between multiple numbers, redirecting calls
Google bought GrandCentral 2007, and after a while when we thought Google had abandoned the project, launched in early 2009, Google Voice. In addition to bringing the services of GrandCentral, Google Voice also added things like handling SMS, Voicemail transcription (to receive them as teto)
This service, of course, has enormous advantages. As well change our phone when we move house or change phone number for some reason, our phone would remain the same, as it would in a call to our "Google Number", which would remain the same, for these new numbers (of the new house, new phone), simply add them as part of the same number.
Interesting, no? Unfortunately, given the complexity of the service, it is still offered only in the United States. Hopefully the day will soon come when we see these lare
Google Voice is posited as a new, free intermediary between users and mobile operators, the basic idea is to have a unique number that "redirects" to all others who have, whether fixed or mobile, individuals or work. At the core functionality that was originally released Grand Central, some services have been added in order that the number of Google Voice phone ends up being the user to use and offer as their own.
