GSM localization is a service offered by mobile telephony operators that can determine with some precision, where a mobile terminal is physically determined.

The various methods used for locating GSM are

• Cell of origin (Cell of Origin), which include cell ID (Cell ID) and enhanced cell ID(Enhanced Cell ID).
• Cell ID: The accuracy of this method is 200 m in urban areas, 2 km in suburban area sand ranges from 3 to 4 km in rural settings.
• Enhanced Cell ID, this method achieves an accuracy very similar to that provided by the Cell ID for urban, and rural settings offering circular sectors of 550 m.
• Observed time difference or E-OTD Enhanced Observed Timed Difference the precision of this method depends on the number of LMUs available on the network, varying between 50 m and 200 m with an LMU for every 3 base stations.

• Enhanced observed time difference improved estimate of the time difference.
