a gsm cell phone or a cdma phone ?

How is the CDMA technology different from GSM? I am planning to buy a new phone on AT&T, which is a GSM technology phone. Should I go ahead and buy it. I have been told that the CDMA phones have better network connectivity then the GSM phones. Is it true? Some friends of mine also say that there is no difference between the two but I do not believe it. Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time and help.

Look, there are a few advantages to something and then a few disadvantages to something. plus your question doesn't clarify the region you're living in. statistics prove that GSM prevails in the UK and EU, UNLIKE the USA where CDMA takes its toll way above GSM. Today, the battle between CDMA and GSM has worsened. GSM still holds the upper hand however. There's the numerical advantage for one thing: 456 million GSM users versus CDMA's 82 million.however, this war between the two modes of telecom technology, has made major carriers like AT&T Wireless begin to support GSM, and recent trials even showed compatibility between the two technologies. GSM phones can also be unlocked and used on different networks, unlike CDMA thus, giveing customers greater choice. CDMA is relatively new, and the network is not as mature as GSM.CDMA cannot offer international roaming, a large GSM advantage. I would never buy a phone which i could only use on one network. Maybe the single format is the reason why the UK and other EU contries have very high uptake of Mobile phones, compared to USA. couple up your GSM with AT&T or VERIZON, and you wont have to look beyond for CDMA. hope this answers your query.
