Now that we have been a few days with IOS 4.2.1 is possible to compare battery life between the previous IOS 4.1 and the new IOS 4.2.1 - so we can see whether or not the consumer in the new version continues, worsens, or improvement. Some users have in the comments that the battery will last less with IOS 4.2.1 but in our experience, we have not really noticed a difference. However, from Italy comes this news where making comparisons relatively equal, the battery lasts significantly in IOS 4.2.1 do the same things at the same time.

These tests were all made on the iPhone 4.

Playing the same video on YouTube for 1 minute, using a Wi-Fi:

  • IOS 4.1: battery from 100% to 97%.
  • IOS 4.2.1: battery from 100% to 98%.
Download a video podcast of 100Mb, obviously using a Wi-Fi:

  • IOS 4.1: Battery 95% to 92%.
  • IOS 4.2.1: Battery 95% to 93%.
Display on for an hour, doing nothing:

  • IOS 4.1: Battery 90% to 81%.
  • IOS 4.2.1: Battery 95% to 93%.
The same game for 5 minutes since:

  • IOS 4.1: From 75% to 71%.
  • IOS 4.2.1: From 75% to 72%.
10-minute phone call:
  • IOS 4.1: From 69% to 54%.
  • IOS 4.2.1: 60% to 56%.

As we can see, the changes are not miraculous but it is clear that the improved battery performance with IOS 4.2.1. As always, results in different iPhones may change, but if you notice some care to keep Apple at least IOS 'consumer' as possible, taking into account the new features. We have seen ourselves as a step IOS 4.2 beta to the other menus and other apps are moving more and more fluently; Hopefully it will not happen again so huge loss of performance that were especially many 3G iPhone users, who saw all the menus of the terminal is moving in leaps and disappeared that 'magic' and smoothness that made the iPhone so special when it was introduced in 2007.
