Are there issue of windows 7 compatibility with older version of games?

Hey I have recently changed my operating system from window vista to window seven. It’s working really cool and much better than the first one. But I couple of thing to ask you guys. Today my friend was saying that the programs that are compatible with only older version of window are not compatible with the newer version of windows like window seven. Is windows 7 compatibility really an issue, please guide me as I have to install some old games which I really love to play.

Long time back, during the early '80s Microsoft released it first operating system (OS): DOS or Disk Operating System. At that point of time Bill Gates announced that in the future 640Kilo bytes (KB) of memory is enough to run the entire system. But today, we are using more than 4 GB of RAM (Random Access Memory) to run the computer system so that we can use the applications smoothly. Yesterday's technology become obsolete today. Similarly with each upgraded version of Windows Operating System from Microsoft's stable has a lot of modification, updation from the previous version of Window. So, lot of older applications become obsolete or require new patches to run smoothly in the newer version of Operating System. That's why we have Adobe Reader 10, Adobe Photoshop CS5, Winamp Version 6, Mozila Firefox Version 6 etc.

Similarly, many PC games are not able to run in Windows 7 and at the same time a lot of developers come out with new patches that fixed the compatibility issue for most of the popular games. Windows 7 is a very robust system that can accommodate most of the older games without any particular issue. But if there is any issue in running older games, you have to do the following.

a. Check the Game Publisher's website to get the latest updates

b. Try to run the game in Administrator's mode. To do this first you have to 'right click' on the game's exe file and you can see one option as 'RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR'.

c. Update your video driver and sound driver from the respective manufacturer's website.

d. Update the Direct X version. Latest Direct X version is 11, but many motherboards /graphics cards do not support Direct X 11. So check with your motherboard's manual.

e. Always use ORIGINAL GAME. In that way you can easily use the latest patches/fixes for your games. Otherwise with cracked version or illegal games it is not possible to use the update.

f. While playing games, disable the antivirus or windows firewall. They sometime create conflicts with older version of games.

g. Finally, you can also right click on the game's exe file and select properties, then choose compatibility mode. The game will start in older compatible mode. This is an inbuilt feature on Windows 7

In this way, you will not face any issue with older games. But if the problem still persists, you can check the game forums for the similar issues.
