Micromax x226 plus

Micromax x226 plus

Whenever one looks at a Micromax mobile, the ‘micro’ part, which is the price, is amply clear. The focus has to be on the ‘max’ part and this is what varies from handset to handset. The X226 arrived with three special features – the telescoping antenna for the FM radio, Yamaha audio amplifiers and a tri-LED torch. The X226 Plus has two more added features – the 1.3 MP camera and a Hot Swamp support. The price is only a couple of hundred bucks higher. The enhanced multimedia system with the dual SIM facility on the phone, make it an attractive entry-level option for the cost-conscious Indian consumer.

Performance

The phone performs well when it comes to making and receiving calls. The reception is good. The same holds true even for the FM radio reception that is boosted by the existence of the telescopic antenna. The camera is a bit low in resolution but for a 1.3 MP camera, it does its job. The audio quality is amazing. The Yamaha amplifier really does a wonderful job in outputting good quality audio from the external speaker. The universal 3.5 mm jack is available for headphones and it too pumps out good quality audio. The embedded vide player plays multiple formats and one can store up to 8 GB on the external micro SD card. The handset has been wonderfully built for a good multimedia experience. The Facebook and Messenger connect via the GPRS and WiFi is fast for a phone of this caliber. The battery is good providing almost 6 hours of talk time.

Features

Like most of the MIcromax handsets, the X226 Plus too has dual-SIM capability which means that the user can make use of the best offers from different service providers and also separate work-related calls from personal calls. The in-built music player provides a good auditory experience that is bolstered by the presence of Yamaha amplifiers. There is also a multi-format video player with a recorder embedded in the handset. A 1.3 MP camera is located on the back. The Tri-LED flashlight is a very useful and practical feature in powercut-prone India. Radio-lovers will rejoice at the wireless FM radio that comes with a telescopic antenna. A USB port ensures data transfer and the phone has a host of regular features like the alarm, scheduler and currency calculator. The GPRS on the phone ensures that doing basic activities on Facebook and connecting via messenger services are also possible.

Design

This candy bar mobile has been clothed in bright candy colors to give an appearance of exuberance and vibrance. The green and black or the red and black options are equally attractive. The shape and design is definitely elegant and stylish. The TFT QQVGA screen is 1.7 inches in size and presents a good display for viewing and navigation. The 1.3 MP camera is located on the back of the handset with the shutter button on the left side color band of the handset. The alpha-numeric keypad is well-spaced and easy to use.

Bottomline

This phone is definitely low on price and not very high on features. But when it comes to value for money, it is definitely high. It is definitely a vastly improved version of the X226 with a slight increase in the price. Though the camera provided is only a 1.3 MP one, it is better than having no camera at all! Overall, a great deal for an entry level phone – a thumbs up all the way!
