Nokia phone might save you from a lightning strike

The cellphone technology has come a long way. You can browse the net as well as listen to music using your mobile. But, the latest Nokia model allows you to detect lightning strikes.

This way, the phone turns into a safety device as well.

Invented by a Finnish manufacturer, The phone uses FM radio as well as GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) to identify radio waves given out by lightning. A typical lightning bolt will produce frequencies between 10Hz and 5GHz.The phone looks for this particular wavelength.

* Upon receiving the waves, the phone analyzes these signals
* This analysis is done by the inbuilt radio frequency device.

The cellphone is priced at US $75.
