Nokia files patent for functional phone ‘magnetic tattoo’

Usually tattoos are restricted to a few enthusiasts who patronize tattoo places; however, in the near future, tattoos may appeal to regular people. Nokia has filed a patent application on a new tattoo idea in March 2012 at the US Patent and Trademark Office.Nokia vibrating tatoo

According to Nokia, the new tattoo would be connected to an electronic pulses transmitting mobile phone which would react to the phone’s ringing or when it is low on battery power. Subsequently, it would alert the mobile users to their mobile’s condition.

The tattoo would be made out of metal ores which would be embedded under the skin. It would vibrate and invoke a tingling under the skin whenever the need arises. Additionally, the tattoo could theoretically communicate through a specific pattern of single or multiple pulses in the form of Shorthand Morse Code to signal for email, messages or warnings. To relieve the tingling, users would have to scratch the spot.

The technology necessitates a minor surgical procedure to insert the tattoo under the skin, which will be activated after the healing of the scars. Alternatively, users can have the technology superficially attached via a temporary magnetic sprat, stamp or decal, but its resistance to wear and tear will have decreased.

The process is very simple, Nokia explained it in the US patent. The ink material is treated with a high temperature to cause demagnetization and the product is used to create the desired image on or under the skin. The finished work is completely functional and does what is expected of it once the apparatus is fixed and the skin heals. The user proceeds to magnetize the functional image on the skin with magnets. Nokia assures its customers that the entire procedure and afterwards, its position on the skin is safe. Customers do not have worry about poisoning or damaging their system.
