What can I do to get pictures from my cell phone to computer?

I have a Samsung Rant phone and I was wondering about how to get my pictures from onto computer. I also have USB cord for it but not sure how to use this stuff. And do I need memory card? Because I have saved all the pictures in my cell phone. Do I need to access it from phone or the computer? Can someone please help on how to get pictures from cell phone to computer? I am not good with technology. I would really appreciate your replies. Thanks.
