R2-D2 is a droid, a robot that plays a role in the Star Wars films series, directed by George Lucas. R2-D2 was rumoured to have made a cameo appearance in the Star Trek movie created by director J J Abrams. And the rumors were found to be true. Although only for a single instant, R2-D2 does indeed make a small cameo appearance in the movie.

During the Drill Machine sequence, the Enterprise moves out of its barrel role during the destroying of the other Federation ships near Vulcan, we see an interior Enterprise bridge over the shoulder of Kirk that is looking out through the front view port of the spaceship. In space, R2-D2 is floating in the debris from about the top middle of the screen to the bottom right. He floats away without any kind of activity, and that's about all there is of R2-D2 in the movie.

This is not the first time that a cinematic robot has crossed film franchises. In 1999, Lucas also put in E.T in The Phantom Menace.
