How to do Record streaming on Dreambox 500?

There are two songs that really like to have on my iPod. I've look everywhere on iTunes and online for download but I just can't seem to find them anywhere. I have a Dreambox 500 which I stream to my PC via the Enigma web interface and record via VLC. My question is there a program that would interact more efficiently with Enigma or a means of customizing VLC to achieve the above? I've tried both Ngrab/Ngrab lite and XMedia Coder, but neither worked reliably for the channels that I want to record. VLC works perfectly, but it's a little clunky to have to keep opening a network etc. each time I want to record. Have a nice day

Dreamboxx units are Linux based, and depending on which image (after market or legit) you can enable aa NFS server on the unit. You will need to setup the exports for it to function, but from memory there is one setup (the hdd) by default once the NFS server is running.

However I think zwanzig was/is a little confused. One option is to record the HDTV content on the dreamboox to its local HDD (also see option 3) and then from the network (includingg the dvix unit) you could theoretically access the .ts files and play them back. However your LAN performance will need to be able to cope.

2. is the streaming ability via the dreambox's http interface.
All decent firmware images allow stream in a range of ways, each determined by the port connected to. IEhtttp://ip of dreambox:31339 is the streamts version. For this one you need to specify a number of things, such as the PID's for the video and audio channel, the PMT ppid etc.
The method I used oon my LAN is to hit the 31344 zapstream port, for this the dreamboox automatically sends you only the required pids being displayed at the time. See the very bottom for a list of the other options. Output from /etc/services.

3. you can on most images re-define where the recordings are being made. The default is /hdd or an equivalent mount point of the internal hdd (image dependent). However you can establish some NFS or CIFS mounting from the dreambox to other devices and then have the recording save to them over the network. This I have done from a few of the dmm 500 units I have. Things to note, the LAN performance of the dreambox isn't always upto scratch for non-High Definition broadcasts. To make it work even half well tweaking to the mount read and write buffer is required. iIm extremely doubtful writing HDTV content is going to work well.
That being said, all options (except a modified option 1, where you record thhe content and then ftp / copy it off for playbaack elsewhere) are going to likely experience network performance issues.
