888 for a cell phone freak should be an adorable number and if you ask me why, you do not deserve to be one. Come on! We remember the Nokia 888 concept don’t we? Since then, wearable cell phone concepts keep hitting popularity every now and then and although it still sounds alien to use them, the fact is that they manage to always find their admirers. Hyun Sung Lee chose to make a difference but knowingly, unknowingly he trounced the same path which NOKIA did with the 888. Thus, we all realize that his concept too is a wearable one and the smarter option would be to go looking for the divergence which is the placement of this concept phone’s camera that chooses to sit atop your wrist, well, in a way.

Recycling gone wild: the Telephone Tree http://www.cellphonebeat.com/entry/recycling-gone-wild-the-telephone-tree/ http://www.cellphonebeat.com/entry/recycling-gone-wild-the-telephone-tree/#comments Asmita article-0-01e6645900000578-264_468x542_Bt6nL_1333
65-year-old Barry Robinson is a Brit who took his love of all things English to a whole new level with a rather tacky “art installation” in the grounds of a field in his native town of Hurley, Warwickshire. You see he salvaged three iconic red telephone booths from a dump and created a gi-normous “Telephone Tree” out of it that stands at over 20 ft. Now the project might have been accepted as a whimsical creation of a patriot were it not for MR. Robinson painting the metal girder green to make it look more like a tree! Of course the neighbors quickly branded the eco-design an “eyesore” and want it removed ASAP as it was ruining their view and a lovely local patch of green. I guess sometimes recycling isn’t all that good for the environment after all.

Designer Marc Schömann must have really loved the Dan Brown bestseller The Da Vinci Code. At least that’s the only reason I could think of for him inventing this baton style mobile phone that uses haptic technology to provide physical feedback for making a call. To dial, you turn the dial of every element to the desired cipher. Once you’ve entered the number, you turn the first segment “to phone” (green LED). If you want to hang up the call, you just gotta turn the first segment to “hang up” (red LED).

no_name2_Nfdst_1333
For lazy voice dialers of the day, that’s just a whole lot of work and given how the phone works without buttons and without a display and is based on the old dial phones something tells us its not exactly going to be the iPhone-killer the designer hoped it to be!

iPhone 3G unlocked using forged IMSI, raises eyebrows http://www.cellphonebeat.com/entry/iphone-3g-unlocked-using-forged-imsi-raises-eyebrows/ http://www.cellphonebeat.com/entry/iphone-3g-unlocked-using-forged-imsi-raises-eyebrows/#comments siddhesh

In less than a week after it’s grand launch, iPhone 3G has been unlocked by the same age old method of forging an International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) card that piggybacks the authentic SIM thus fooling our peppered gizmo which thinks it’s been used with it’s official carrier. Well, take a look at this video. The guy has focused twice on the symbol of ‘TIM’ in upper left corner of the display where the logo AT&T appears! The vid also reveals how well this forgery can work and will delight the vandals ‘in making’!

T767: The New Sony Ericsson Concept To Replace Z-series http://www.cellphonebeat.com/entry/t767-the-new-sony-ericsson-concept-to-replace-z-series/ http://www.cellphonebeat.com/entry/t767-the-new-sony-ericsson-concept-to-replace-z-series/#comments arpita se_t767_LcBHQ_7548

The Sony Ericsson Z series phones might soon bid adieu if rumors are to be believed. We will most probably see a new device as a perfect replacement for Z750 (Sony Ericsson’s first tri-band HSDPA and quad-band EDGE enabled phone supporting Java Platform 8)- the T767, as Xell from Esato board has it. It comes packed with a 3.2-megapixel auto focus camera, HSDPA, GPS, 2.2-inch QVGA display and LED signal strip. Although now it is still in the concept stage, it will not be long when we will get the real thing.

Three of the newest Sony Ericsson Walkman phones, the W902, W595 and W302 are all set to be officially announced next Tuesday with a launch expected sometime later this year. A high-class candybar Walkman with 5-megapixel camera, music keys on the right, 8GB M2 card and Walkman 3.0 player, the Sony Ericsson W902 will feature a 2.2” display with an embossed pattern on the right side of the phone.

Also a candybar, though an entry level one, the SE W302 features a low-resolution 176×220 pixels display, Walkman 2.0, and slim metal body with Send and End keys and index for the function of the central (confirm) key.

The third in line is the W595, which seeks to replace the W580. With a newer A200 software platform, the phone comes laced with 3G creds and also features a 3.2-megapixel camera. More details about the phones will of course be made available when the phones are officially launched next week and we shall certainly have the low-down on it for sure.

With the blogosphere almost full to the brim with “leaked” Sony Ericsson handsets, you really cannot blame me for suspecting that half of these awesome phones may not be real at all! But the mysterious Sony Ericsson Walkman phone codenamed Alicia has for now been identified as the W707. The flip-open clamshell has two external screens with 3.2-Mp camera with fixed focus, and of course the audio experience the Walkman Series is known for. But the W707 doesn’t have stereo loudspeakers and the only one speaker it does have is inside under the keys. Since it doesn’t support an 8GB card and doesn’t have a FM receiver either, I just feel like asking them why are they making it at all!

While you are worried sick about how to get your pre-teen daughter to not raise hell over having her own Hello Kitty cellphone, Chinese cellphone manufacturers are all set to launch their own line of Mickey Mouse adorned cellphones. Obviously aimed at younger cellphone users, the phones not only copy the design of major cellphone brands including the iPhone, they are also sure to catch the fancies of children still in the Mickey-loving age-group!

Now that’s just gotta make parents even more vary of whining kids throwing tantrums for their own cellphones! What’s worse is that you might even encounter a few grown up cartoon-lovers flaunting their Mickey Mouse phone and bombarding you with boring details of their annual trips to Disney World!

Pop corn with microwaves from your phones http://www.cellphonebeat.com/entry/pop-corn-with-microwaves-from-your-phones/ http://www.cellphonebeat.com/entry/pop-corn-with-microwaves-from-your-phones/#comments Asmita p_Ica6C_1333
Demonstrating the potential threat of microwaves emitted by cellphones, a small Pittsburgh-based Bluetooth Headset Company based named Cardo Systems posted a series of videos on YouTube that showed how microwaves emitted from cellphone can pop corn! Of course the trick was aimed primarily at promoting the use of the company’s headsets, but if there’s even an ounce of truth in it, I’m sure a lot of people out there will be ditching their expensive electricity sucking microwave appliances in favor of popping corn with their cellphones instead.

JUST KIDDING! But if this is what cellphones can do to corns, imagine what they can do to your brain! Watch the video below and chew on that will ya?

When you have a touchscreen phone as good as the iPhone, you really have every right to feel smug about yourself. But for many new iPhone owners, the ecstasy of owning an Apple handset can soon turn into dread as the phone is not too friendly for people with chubby digits. Fortunately Beijing native Alfred Chu has come up with a nifty solution for the interfacing dilemma and my, is this assistive mechanism called Dancing Fingers handy! You see the concept device fits snugly onto your index and middle fingers allowing you to master touchscreen interfaces in no time! Sweet!

Yea, you heard it right; this one-of-a-kind mobile phone Mosquito Repellent service allows users to download a special audio file that can be played by pressing a few keys on their phones. When played, the sound replicates the buzz of a male mosquito, which the blood sucking females tend to avoid and can keep mosquitoes up to 1 yard away which for the fee of $2.5, is so damn worth it!

Apple's servers find it difficult to handle 3G iPhone activation demands http://www.cellphonebeat.com/entry/apples-servers-find-it-difficult-to-handle-3g-iphone-activation-demands/ http://www.cellphonebeat.com/entry/apples-servers-find-it-difficult-to-handle-3g-iphone-activation-demands/#comments arpita iphone_home_I9wzX_7548
When you develop an unprecedented device, packing it with hitherto many unthought-of features, the demand for the product is bound to the unprecedented. When Apple launched its first iPhone, its servers nearly crashed trying to handle the huge customer demand for the activation of the product. The same problem has once again revisited Apple after the launch of its 3G iPhone despite of efforts by the company to avoid the activation problem customers would face while trying to upgrade the product. Those who were trying to activate their new 3G iPhone and those who wanted to upgrade their old iPhone Apple had advised them to walk into the iPhone stores to activate their devices. However, salespersons were either oblivious of the advice or whatever was the reason, asked customers to go home and use their personal computers to download the software to activate the 3G iPhone. The result was as apprehended by Apple and its customers.

The volume of traffic was too much to handle and the Apple’s iTunes software crashed globally for several hours. The new 3G iPhone with all its apps are too tempting to avoid but if Apple is inept in handling the online traffic demand then it might cost the company dear sometime in the near future because given the competition it will not be long when we will have some more avatars of the 3G iPhone from the workshops of other smartphone makers.

Apple launches official iPhone 3G Dock http://www.cellphonebeat.com/entry/apple-launches-official-iphone-3g-dock/ http://www.cellphonebeat.com/entry/apple-launches-official-iphone-3g-dock/#comments Asmita 1_sEnwX_52
The iPhone 3G has barely come out of the stores and the demand for accessories compatible with it are already soaring. Since the new gen phone no longer comes with a fully loaded accessory package, Apple have officially launched an official dock for the iPhone 3G called the iPhone 3G Dock that can be bought separately for $29. Crafted in plain white plastic, the dock comes with a rubber bottom that can stand the iPhone 3G up on a desk, outputting audio from its bottom.

The dock also facilitates pass-through Dock Connector functionality that can connect the iPhone 3G via an included USB cable and wall power adapter. With special ventilation built in for uninhibited speakerphone use, the iPhone 3G Dock unfortunately will not fit other devices, though its petite size certainly is an advantage for frequent travelers.

You know how they say that God lies in the details? Well, David Turpin certainly seems to have found a sleek yet simple way to demonstrate that saying. His concept design featuring a touchscreen cellphone with Windows Mobile creds is simply more than brilliant. With a petite body that reminds one very strongly of the iPod touch, the elegant handset’s best virtue may well be its handy touchscreen display. Stunning Windows Mobile 7 apps coupled with an accelerometer for an auto-rotating menu may make this cellphone a surefire fashion trend if the designer decides to bring his vision to life.
