The Samsung Glyde upgrade, the Glyde II is definitely around the corner and an indication of the development is the photo leak. Other than the images, there isn’t much known about the (Verizon Loyal) Glyde II barring the obvious QWERTY keypad, TouchWiz User Interface and an accelerometer for orientation awareness. It will house a big touchscreen, probably an AMOLED variant but we just cannot affirm. More images after the jump.

This is some news for people who closely follow the developments on the wireless world. If LG’s mobile business president, Ahn Seung-kwon is to be believed, LG will become the number 2 cellphone manufacturer in the world, overtaking Samsung by the year 2012. As much as this piece of information is indigestible, the thought of LG conquering Samsung in a mere span of 3 years is equally surreal. Someone should tell Kwon that LG attained the number 3 position merely because of the shortcomings of Motorola and Sony Ericcson and not because LG came up with laudable strides in the cellphone sector.

This isn’t the only delusion LG has, it believes that it’s ‘to be released in Q4’ Black Label series phone can compete with the latest iPhone. Thankfully there are no irrational statements made about the Prada and the only thing they would do is to expand the line by offering another Handset-Prada III. The president surely needs a vacation and we hope that the he returns to sanity at the earliest, amen!

This phone here isn’t a stunning revelation like the others we generally cover here on CB. Yet, it bears credentials which did push us into giving it a mention here. The Samsung Guru E1107 is the first solar powered mobile to be commercially sold (in India) and Samsung intends to incorporate this technology into a number of phones from the mainstream lineage as well. It has been almost a month since it came into reckoning but it didn’t create the hubbub it should have and probably the pricing of about $55 (INR 2,799) had something to do with major technology sites ignoring this development-we assume. The E1107 can provide 5 to 10 minutes of talk-time with an hour of solar charging which sounds good enough to help you in emergency situations. All that is required is to place the switched-off phone in sunlight with the rear atop (it bears the solar panel). To fully charge the phone, the battery requires 40 hours of solar charging.

It didn’t take a long time coming, did it? Days after the launch of the latest iPhone 3G S, the Jailbreak application released by George Hotz has arrived with the codename ‘purplera1n’ and it currently supports Windows only barring the Windows 7 and it also requires installation of the latest iTunes, alongwith 3.0 Firmware. No matter how much apple hate George for this and curtail the march by appropriate vendor updates, we feel pleased to know that the first jailbreak is really here. iPhone Dev Team’s 3.0 jailbreak application though failed to work on the latest iPhone; it is Hotz who once again took the credit. This is how you do it- Connect to your iPhone and hit make it rain. Once the phone boots, run Freeze, the jailbreaking application. Apple should be ready for more as Hotz has mentioned that the jailbreak for Mac is coming soon. Hit the jump for the video.

The Veritable Mobile Convergence has arrived with the launch of the long awaited Zer01 mobile debut and whether it is here to stay or not, what we like is what it offers. Unlimited voice and data over the Smartphone for a $79.99 per month that gets you unlimited VoIP, sounds a good deal and add to that data and messaging over AT&T networks-there isn’t anything more you can ask for. And more so, add to that the commitment of paying $10 extra, you open up international calls to 40 countries across the globe-this shit could make you go crazy. Apparently, Zer01 is looking for partners to resell the service. To get the service running on your handset (Windows mobile only), Zer01 will install its proprietary software or else you can buy a Zer01 handset directly. You surely need to assess your communication needs before shelling more than $500 annually or else you will find even the ‘Zer01′ dubbing, hounding.

Hush was the word when HTC was inquired about the release of the android based Hero in North America but all that has changed pretty soon. Hero has now got the FCC approval and the Smartphone is ready for a release in US and Canada. With the information now confirmed, we suspect that it would be AT&T that would serve as a carrier for this phone as the FCC approval qualifies it for 3G, 850/1900 MHz bands-all of these being AT&T compatible. If HTC readies a GSM version promptly, the ticker will then point at Sprint. Wherever the Android based Smartphone is heading, it will surely be an exciting announcement and we promise to keep you updated.

There aren’t many places in the world where they still prefer the High Screen phones but since we talk about rarity, it has to be Russia. And guess what! The High Screen PP5420 despite being an old bloke from the design aspect embraces the Android Platform and that is what I call the Russian Mix. This phone comes from Vobis and it will be dubbed the Mobinova Ice (a fitting name given the country where it will be launched in a week’s time). The best part from where I see it is the dual OLED screen, one that serves as 3” WQVGA TFT LCD touchscreen display and the other as a navigation pad. Inside the phone is a Qualcomm MSM7201ATM 528MHz processor with the Google Android Operating system ofcourse.

On the rear it houses a 3MP camera with auto-focus and all those images can be stored on to a microSD card. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 and GPS Navigation also come as standard. Not sure whether the Russians really understood the meaning of Open Source for Android for then the ban would have been in place or maybe it is some toned down version of OS.

We know that the iPhone 3GS is the hottest selling gadget in the world and guess that heat has had the better of the phone and the company as well. Come on people, the whole world knows that the 3G S has a heating problem, which initially began with reports of the white coloured 3G S and slowly the entire lineage was clouded with heating issues. In the midst of all this, where users were expecting a recall or at least an acknowledgement, what they eventually get is blamed. Apple has bluntly (the worst strategy Apple ever came out with) put the blame on users with an overheating story and has thereby issued an overheating advisory on the support pages.

Never did we hear before that the gadget is suitable to be used between 4º to 113º F and even if it was a fact, Apple was never so vocal about it. Alas, what you should now do is to look for a shady place before plugging in those headphones. Tell you what people, if this is the way Apple cowardly responds to problems, it is better to posses a Palm Pre or a Samsung Jet. Disgusting!

Did we say tactile feedback for supposed future Windows mobile yesterday? Yes we did, and the same could now be applicable to the next generation iPhones. It is not confirmed as yet but, at lest, the Apple patent application which has three very interesting clauses waiting to be approved, does give us a lot of hope. The first clause wants tactile feedback to be a part of the touchscreen offered on the iPhone. This will help do away with the limitations of the current touchscreen format employed by Apple and the company does acknowledge those limitations-probably why tactile feedback or haptic response was thought of. A special grid of piezoelectronic actuators will be combined to fully form a tactile touchscreen. Different combinations of these actuators (upon vibration) will be used to facilitate different frequencies providing a variety of responses.

Apple is also keen on employing fingerprint recognition as an input method. The integration of this technology can facilitate usage without actually looking at the phone. The technology would help identify fingerprints for different fingers and a corresponding response will be ensued for each of the fingers. The third patent clause is that of RFID tag reader and since I cannot precisely comprehend the reason behind it, it is better not to discuss it here.
