Samsung Electronics released three new Mobile WiMAX (WiBro in Korea) devices - a top of the range multimedia convergence device -SPH-P9000, a WiBro smart phone -SPH-M8100 and a USB Dongle -SPH-H1200. Lets take a sneak preview at what these ultra modern gadgets have to offer.
SPH-P9000

Samsung's P9000 is a convergence device, capable of providing voice and multimedia data communications via WiBro. The P9000 comes with a full QWERTY keyboard for quick typing and surfing, while the MP3 player, VOD, and camera functions provide easy access to a myriad of multimedia entertainment. This feature packed device boasts of:
MP3 Player
30 GB of Storage
Mobile WiMAX / CDMA 1x EV-DO
1GHz (Transmeta) CPU
QWERTY Keyboard
Mini USB
Extended I/O Pack
Bluetooth with BT Messenger
143 x 92 x 29.7 mm
Weighing 560 gm and having a 5-inch WVGA display P9000 can provide wireless connectivity and a 1.3 mega pixel camera is more than adequate for all the pics you might want to click. In addition, the Samsung P9000 acts as a multi-functional terminal that can be used as a general PC, thanks to its Windows XP-based operating system.
And if you are on of those fast moving Korean trains, this device provides Internet speeds of 2-3 Mbps even when travelling up 120-KPH (75-MPH)
SPH-M8100

SPH-M8100 compared to the above device is sleeker and more phone like. Nonetheless, it too is feature packed. Samsung's SPH-M8100 is a PDA WiBro smart phone which offers wireless Internet, voice telephony and video telephony services through WiBro and CDMA 1x EV-DO. The slider phone boasts a 2.8" color touch screen display, a TV-out, an MMC card slot, and 2 cameras; a 2 megapixel camera and a VGA camera for video calls. Its main features are:
Bluetooth
2.8-inch 65k color display
TV-out
Windows Mobile 6.0
Push-to-all type services
240x320 resolution
A IEEE 802.16e high speed air interface
A micro MMC memory expansion card slot
128ROM/64MB RAM
Its users can even use it as a Wibro modem when the handset is connected to their laptop or PC and at the same time, to watch video content distributed through T-DMB type service and with the help of the TV-OUT functionality to enjoy it on the much bigger display of the TV set.
Now that is versatility.
Just if you are wondering, this phone can provide you instant access to your RSS news feeds at the touch of a button with its dedicated RSS key. 20 Mbps going at 60 kmph is good enough for ordinary folks like me.Incidentally its a touch screen device.
SPH-H1200

This isn't a phone but a USB dongle. Samsung's WiBro USB Dongle allows users to access both WiBro and HSDPA services via an external peripheral device that connects to a USB port.
Measuring at 9.6 x 4.6 x 1.5cm it is nearer to a mobile phone in size than a regular USB drive. SPH-H1200 has powerful security features as well since it makes sure that only authorized users can access a specific program. Users in Korean metropolitan areas can enjoy speeds up to 13 Mbps at affordable prices through Wibro. WiBro services offer users web searching, e-mail, multimedia features, video conference, and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) at an affordable price.
Samsung has looked to invest in future-when Mobile WiMAX (also known as 802.16e) services become widespread and users want to connect their computers to the network- with this USB device. But unless you are a user who wants high speed broadband on the go without wires, I suggest keep your hands away from it.
