Sony looks for ‘head control’ after Xperia Sola’s ‘floating touch’

Following the celebrated ‘floating touch’ display on Xperia Sola, Sony is likely to introduce a ‘head control’ option for its future phones. Well, on Sola, you won’t require to touch the display for giving inputs. Just hovering fingers over the display will do the task. With the imminent head control system, users will be able to simply control the devices with some head movements and gestures.

Sony head control for handsets

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has recently exposed the details of Sony Ericsson’s patent application for the new intelligent controlling system for handsets. The application was submitted in September 2010; later, Sony bought out Ericsson and the head control will now come as an exclusive Sony technology for its future mobile devices.

According to the patent application, a motion sensor in the headset (maybe a Bluetooth earpiece), can detect the movements of the user’s head. It will transmit the movement signals to the phone, which will work accordingly. As a whole, users will be answering calls by shaking their heads or moving from side to side to fire up apps.
